Since the lovely AI software at Facebook loves to flag my posts for something they call "engagement bait," I technically can't tell you what to do without getting in trouble, so you know what to do. It's something I'll be monitoring in real time and will keep you updated on. The threat for strong to severe thunderstorms will continue into Monday but will be somewhat contingent on cloud cover and whether we are able to break into any sunshine at some point during the late morning or early afternoon. These showers and storms could continue well into the night which means no sleep for me. This isn't to scare you or elevate your anxiety, but merely to prepare you and get you thinking about strategies and contingency plans to prepare for what's coming. With already saturated ground, it won't take much to cause ponding of water, and flash flooding especially in low-lying poor drainage areas. Training is when thunderstorms move over the same areas over and over and over again. The CAM model data is also indicating that storms could train over the same areas anywhere between El Paso County and Weld County. The strongest storms will likely go severe and will be capable of producing large hail up to 2.5" in diameter, damaging winds in excess of 70mph, torrential rainfall that could cause flash flooding, and brief tornadoes. What this will translate to is widespread to numerous showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. We're gonna add more moisture to the air, more wind shear aloft, and more instability for Sunday. For those of you who have lived here long enough, you know what easterly upslope winds mean here in Colorado. Once the thunderstorm activity clears out tonight, a cold front will turn the wind direction out of the east tomorrow. If you missed that update, here's the link for your convenience.
